Hafez · Ghazals
What this poem says
The poet asks the sultan's attendants to convey his prayer to the king, and to ask him not to keep the beggar out of his sight. He takes refuge in God and speaks of enmities. He appeals to someone with dark eyes not to heed his longing and not to sear his heart. At night he wishes that morning would come with a pleasant breeze, bringing news of those he knows. The poet tells his beloved that her beauty sears the hearts of lovers, and asks her to gladden his spirit with a single sip of affection. In the end, he hopes that his morning prayer will have a positive effect.
A prose synopsis, not a translation of the verse. Translated from Ganjoor’s machine-generated Persian summary.
