Hafez · Ghazals
What this poem says
The poet asks the Saqi here for a cup full of wine, so that he might forget life's sorrows and troubles. He holds that even if others condemn him to disgrace, it does not matter to him, and he refuses to dwell on needless worries. Voicing his heartache and despair, he notes that no one can grasp the secret of his heart, and that the only thing that gives him ease is the peace he draws from within his own heart. In the end, Hafez reminds himself to be patient and endure the hard days, since he will eventually attain what he desires.
A prose synopsis, not a translation of the verse. Translated from Ganjoor’s machine-generated Persian summary.
