What this poem says

The lofty sky is made of precious, enduring stuff — as though fashioned entirely of red ruby — unlike earthly things, which are only a fragile blend of water, earth, wind, and smoke. The mighty God has adorned and lit this enamelled azure dome with thousands of shining stars and planets, until it seems a lush garden on the feast of Nowruz. Among all these lamps moves one radiant, heart-brightening jewel — the sun — from which the bright day borrows all its light and warmth; a jewel that rises each morning in the east and travels toward the west, and no order in the world is more exact or true than this movement. O shining sun, O light-giver of the world — beloved, or higher truth — what has happened, that you sometimes veil your face and no longer shine on me?

A prose synopsis, not a translation of the verse. Translated from the Persian summary.
