About Tirgan
Tirgan is the festival of water and rain, named for Tishtrya — the rain divinity who defeats the demon of drought. On this day, the archer Arash gave his life-force to the arrow that fixed Iran's border.
Its joyful rite is water-splashing in the July heat. Celebrants tie the seven-colored "tir-o-bād" wristband at Tirgan and give it to the wind ten days later.
