About this book
The Arts of Persia, edited by R. W. Ferrier, was published by Yale University Press in 1989. With over 150 color plates and hundreds of black-and-white illustrations, it offers a wide-ranging survey of Persian art.
Some twenty specialist scholars, each in their own field, wrote the book’s chapters, spanning the periods of Persian art from the Sasanian era through the Islamic centuries.
Its subjects range broadly: architecture, ceramics, metalwork, carpets and textiles, miniature painting, calligraphy, and numismatics — each chapter authored by an expert in that medium.
It is a standard academic reference on the history of Persian art, an authoritative source for grasping the depth of Iranian aesthetics across every medium and century.
