As the new semester opened — on the fortieth-day mourning of the Dey uprising's fallen — a second wave rose from the universities: a sit-in at Shahid Beheshti, street blockades at Amirkabir, and a rally at Sharif that was attacked by Basij militiamen. Students in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan and Yazd chanted "Death to the dictator" and called for Prince Reza Pahlavi.
Modern Era
Today is 2 Esfand in the Shahanshahi calendar — one day in thousands of years of unbroken Persian culture.
